Facebook Could Help In Fatal Crash Investigation

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Facebook may be the key to solving a fatal crash investigation in Franklin County.

Minutes before a rollover crash in which a Columbus woman was ejected from a vehicle, she posted on her Facebook page that she was "drunk as f*** at Next Door Tavern loving it."

The crash occurred on Fisher Road on Oct. 29 at about 12:22 a.m. Investigators said a Ford Explorer SUV was traveling eastbound on Fisher Road at about 12:22 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway. The vehicle rolled and came to a rest after hitting a home.

The female, Jessica Hubble, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies.

Since then, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant to obtain the cell phone of her boyfriend, Oscar Staton. According to court records, Staton admitted to being inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The owner of Next Door Tavern said that Hubble and her boyfriend each had one drink, they took pictures, she posted some on Facebook and they stayed for 30 minutes and left.

Franklin Township police Chief Allen Wheeler said Facebook is a great tool to investigate cases, "Many departments I've seen and heard they've used it and it shows very effective results."

Deputies on scene told NBC4 that Staton had originally reported that his girlfriend had been driving the vehicle. He later admitted he was the driver at the time of the crash, deputies said.

Police said Staton was uninjured and uncooperative, and refused to submit a blood sample.

According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Staton was released from prison on October 3. Court records indicate that Staton served 7 months of a one-year and five-month sentence for receiving stolen property.

Staton was jailed this week on a probation violation. In the meantime, Hubble's family is still trying to figure out how to pay for her funeral.  Her memorial service is Monday.  Hubble also leaves behind a 3-year-old son.

Her family is accepting donation to pay for her funeral.  Contact the Hilltop Chapel 303 West Broad Street Columbus, Ohio 43204.  Phone number: 614-279-8657.
